What is LED?

LED (light-emitting diode) light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that enters the skin’s layers to improve the skin, alleviate aches and pains or can assist in body contouring.

LED for Face/Skin -

It can treat various skin conditions and concerns, such as:

LED comes in different types:

Uses various wavelengths that correspond to different visible colors. Each color penetrates the skin at different depths.

  • Blue light affects the uppermost layer of your skin. -
    • Blue LED light therapy may destroy acne-causing bacteria (P. acnes).
  • Yellow light penetrates deeper.
  • Red light travels further into your skin. -
    • Red LED light therapy may reduce inflammation and stimulate the production of collagen, a protein responsible for younger-looking skin that diminishes with age.
  • Near-infrared light penetrates deepest.

The treatment usually lasts about 15-30 minutes.  LED light therapy is a non-invasive, painless treatment. During treatment, you might feel some warmth but no discomfort.

How long does it take for LED light therapy to work?

  • To see significant benefits, you typically need to have a series of  treatments. You may need a treatment each week for about a month. Then you might need maintenance treatments every month or every few months.

Who should not have LED light therapy?

LED light therapy isn’t appropriate for everyone, including people who:

  • Take certain medications that increase their sensitivity to sunlight, such as isotretinoin and lithium.
  • Have a history of certain conditions, including skin cancer and inherited eye diseases.

LED combined with massage (aches/pains) -

  • Benefits
Massage and LED light therapy can enhance each other's benefits, leading to faster recovery, improved skin health, and reduced pain. Massage improves circulation, which helps deliver the healing properties of LED light therapy to where they're needed.

  • When to combine
You can combine the two therapies in a number of ways, including: treatments can be 15-30 minutes.

    • Before massage: Applying LED light therapy before a massage can help relax muscles and reduce pain or inflammation.
    • After massage: Using LED light therapy after a massage can promote tissue repair and reduce soreness.
    • Integrated sessions: It can be integrated during massage sessions where LED light therapy is applied throughout the massage.

How does LED red light therapy work for body contouring?

It sounds wild, but it’s science.

LED red light therapy works by emitting specific wavelengths of light that penetrate beneath the skin's surface into the subcutaneous layer, targeting adipocytes (fat cells), and stimulating their natural metabolic process. This process, known as photobiomodulation (PBM), triggers a series of biochemical reactions within the cells, ultimately leading to the release of stored fat.

This is done by utilizing these specific output and wavelengths of light (red and near infrared) to stimulate natural cellular responses in the skin and subcutaneous fat. As light energy stimulates cellular energy production (ATP), adipocytes are activated. This creates temporary pores in fat cell membranes, causing the fat lipids inside to leak into the interstitial space and be eliminated by the body's lymphatic and circulatory systems. As a result, the amount of fat stored within cells is reduced, leading to fast, visible improvements in both body shape and skin appearance.

For optimal results, have a session 3 times per week for 4 weeks at 30 minutes per treatment. Keep in mind, every body is different so results and treatment times vary from person to person. Most users report results after just one treatment, and you will need to continue to use LED therapy regularly to maintain results.

LED light therapy doesn't damage skin, and there's no recovery time. However, you should avoid sun exposure for 48 hours after treatment.
